Below are a variety of different Beijing and China resources that I’ve recommended to foreign students and other newcomers in China in the past. This list came together over the almost eight years I lived in Beijing. It is not exhaustive but it will give anyone new to China a good introduction to a variety of organizations and issues.

I’m now back in the U.S., where I still mentor students and other young people who are interested in China. I’m sharing the list here to make it available to anyone who wants to learn more about Beijing events and China issues in general.

If a website does not work for you, that could be because of the Great Firewall (the Chinese censorship apparatus). This means some websites are not available from inside of China without a good VPN (see here for my guidance on choosing a VPN). Other sites may block VPNs and require you to turn them off.
